The last Wrangler is scheduled to come off the Parkway assembly line today...

The last of nearly 970,000 Wranglers made since the icon was last redesigned in 1997 was built at Parkway yesterday, will be painted red there today, and will be finished tomorrow at Stickney, where Mr. Laucks works.

Meanwhile, production of the redesigned Wrangler begins with four-door Unlimited models on July 17 after Mr. Laucks and others return from Toledo Jeepís traditional two-week summer shutdown. The first finished vehicle is to be done July 24.

What a sad day it is for the Jeep world. I've had a 2002 TJ and now my 2004.5 LWB TJ (LJ). I remember sitting looking at the paper when the TJ's launched, I just bought my used YJ.

I guess this confirms things. Unlimited first and then two door.
I don't think they will start making them and then let them sit at the factory until Dec. The rumors below don't make sense.
Does anyone know how the sales of the TJ (970,000) according to the article, compare to past models? This has to be one of the most sucessful Jeeps in history.

I don't have the numbers for XJ's 14 year run, but if we're talking traditional open top Jeeps... the TJ wins this one hands down. A very distant second place is the YJ with 632'000 built and then the CJ-5 with about 603'000 produced. Hard to believe there were only 379'000 CJ-7s produced and a measley 27'000 CJ-8s. Anybody know how many of those TJs were the TJL to compare to its grand-daddy Scrambler?

I know that between 1983 and 2001 - 2,884,172 XJ's were sold ending with a black 60th anniversary edition. That is also an 18 year period, but when compared to the 10 yr run of the TJ, that is about 1.6 million Cherokees, which is nearly double.
