Grand CherokeePricing for Grand Cherokee CRD Tuning from Startech
Posted by Transpower on 2006/9/4 20:01:06 (2732) reads

I got the following quote from Startech: 1590 euros, or 2035.20 USD for their CRD tuning kit (SD6). I assume that includes the 30 minute labor done at any Jeep dealership. As reported here before, Startech describes the tuning as follows:

"With the new STARTECH SD6 tuning kit the V6 diesel develops 262 hp / 193 kW compared to 218 hp / 160 kW for the production car. At the same time peak torque grows from 510 Nm to 580 Nm between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm.

The STARTECH SD6 performance kit consists of a processor-controlled auxiliary control unit. Thanks to an included wire harness and installation instructions the kit can be installed by any authorized Chrysler dealer in less than 30 minutes.

With STARTECH SD6 tuning performance of the SUV improves notably: Acceleration from rest to 100 km/h is shortened from 9.2 to 8.5 seconds with STARTECH tuning. Top speed increases to 210 km/h."

No word yet on what happens to fuel economy...

Torque Comparison

SRT Hemi V8 6.1L: 420 ft-lb @ 4800 rpm
CRD w/Startech : 427 ft-lb @ 2800 rpm

Neat, huh?

Wow, now that's saying something. More torque than the almighty 6.1L Hemi . I know the whorespower isn't the same, but it's more than my current 4.7L V8.

Here are a few conversions:
Stock - 510 nm torque = 386 ft/lb
Startech - 580 nm torque = 427 ft/lb
Startech top speed - 210 km/hr = 130 mph
The Australian version CRD gets 23 USmpg in stock form.

Update: Christoph Dietze at Startech e-mailed me the following.

"Installation is not included [in the price]...We are currently restructuring in the US and could do all transactions directly with you. The fuel economy remains the same or should improve when using the same driving style as you would use torque rather than throttle to accelerate. Though consumption is all dependent on the way you use the vehicle, with 44 HP more I am sure anyone would have more 'fun' with."

Sounds pretty good to me.
