We really don't know what to even write about this - I think the picture tells the story. From yahoo.reuters.com:

Brazilian off-road vehicle maker Troller Veiculos Especias said on Friday it was holding talks with Ford Motor Co. that may lead to its sale to the U.S. company.

Troller, which based the design of its T4 markee vehicle on the Willys jeeps, has 500 employees and produces about 100 automobiles a month. The company, founded in 1997 in the northern state of Ceara, makes two vehicle models: the T4 and a pick-up truck called Pantanal.

Its engine is a common rail diesel, 163 hp and torque is 380 N-m, or 280 ft-lbs... more torque than the 2007 Wrangler.

Interesting interior

I think it's neat looking. Dig that unique 12-opening grille. No chance of a lawsuit over "copying" that one! I doubt Ford will bring that to the U.S. --though it has a better engine than the JK...

Anyone remember the Bronco concept? (See http://seriouswheels.com/cars/top-2004-Ford-Bronco-Concept.htm) If Ford adds anything to their SUV lineup, I'm betting it looks more like that, or at least a morph between the two...

This could be cool but.....

This particular vehicle has a butt ugly front end even uglier than the front of a Compass!!!! But....

Ford would certainly take the rig and restyle it a great deal to fit it into the Ford family so I really doubt there'd be any "intellectual property" issues. Also with Ford having some really top notch automotive designers they could do a bang up job of making a sharp looking rig here.

I could see this model becoming an updated "Bronco" in an attempt to recapture the magic of the first generation Bronco. Ford is into this retro thing these days as we all know.

I'd kind of like to see this happen, however with Ford's current mess I tend to think this is nothing more than some speculation.

Either way it's a big complement to the new Wrangler, hey the new Wrangler is one sweeeeeeeeet rig, both functionally and aesthetically.

Not likely, Ford has fallen on desperate times and as much as they would like to compete in the Wrangler market they would be foolish to attempt to sell such an obvious copy with the Ford name on it! The legal battles would cost far more that Ford would ever recover from such a ludicrous venture. You also have to recognize that Ford's recent acquisitions of Jaguar and Land Rover are adding to their financial difficulties. The new Leadership at Ford under the Mulally regime surely has better things to do to save the Ford Motor Company for its stockholders. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery and Jeep would probably gain market share if Ford were to pursue this foolish direction.

Here's the official website for the Brazilian Troller: http://www.troller.com.br/2007/index.asp

There are "rip-offs" of Jeeps/Willys/Bantams ALL over the world. It's testimony to its heritage and functionality that so many different cultures/countries mimic the design. Talk about an ICON! Embrace it! Check this out: http://www.film.queensu.ca/cJ3B/World.html

Remember the article that was run on this site a while back about Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., the India-based company that also has similar vehicles derived from the Willy's Jeep? TCC just ran an article today saying they moving to sell products in the US.

http://www.thecarconnection.com/Auto_News/Daily_Auto_News/Daily_Auto_News_Nov_14_2006.S173.A11092.html

The article says they plan on selling the Scorpio abroad (assuming that means US), which just happens to have a seven-slot grille...

Mahindra licenses the designs from Jeep to build their CJs. I am curious if this company also had a similar arrangement with Jeep and how well Jeep wrote their legal agreements.

Willy's, Kaiser and AMC whored themselves out so many times, it looks like its coming back to haunt DaimlerChrysler. Still think they never should have sold off Hummer.
I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Also, I can't help but wonder how much it would cost to buy one of Mahindra's CJ-based pickups and have it shipped over here :)

I see an intellectual property law suit just waiting to happen on this one. You would have to be legally blind to not see this is a direct rip off of the Wrangler.

I wonder what the history of this company is? A lot of Willys were made in Brazil and was this company involved?

I doubt it. Ford knows better than to bring something like this to a part of the world that would entertain an IP lawsuit. Ford sells cars all over the world. They wouldn't neccessarily bring this vehicle home to the US. There's no Defender in the US. I'm sure there are other examples just none I am immedeately familiar with. I'm not the biggest fan of Ford but they aren't stupid.

And they may just be buying the company for their facilities. They may have no plans to produce what this Brazilian company is currently producing.
