Concept/Demonstration2007 NAIAS: Jeep Trailhawk Concept Vehicle (updated)
Posted by CanJeepYJ on 2006/11/21 17:18:40 (3584) reads

According to a press release by the North America International Auto Show (NAIAS), Jeep is going to debut a new concept called the Jeep Trailhawk.

From the article:

The Jeep Trailhawkconcept, according to Chrysler, "merges the spectrum of the Jeep brand by combining
the core features of the Jeep Wrangler with the refined sophistication of the Jeep Grand Cherokee."

Derived from the new Wrangler architecture, the Trailhawk concept features a new approach to open-air freedom. The four-door open-air experience is designed around a rigid sport-bar system that features a central spine with removable glass panels. The rear skylight and hinged
backlight are also removable.

The Trailhawk is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine and outfitted with upgraded four-wheel-drive hardware. Its name and headlamps are inspired by the bird of prey of the same name.

Download the press release in PDF format.

NAIAS takes place January 7-21, 2007 in Detroit.

UPDATE: LeftLaneNews has some concept art of the Trailhawk (bigger version of the image on this page).

Looks like a bumper car. There is a chrysler concept out there that shows exagerated bumpers too. Co-op student must have gotten a new air brush for his birthday.

Explain to me how a hawk has a 7 slotted grille and square eyes?

And of course Trailhawk is inspired by the name of a hawk... It's hardly named after a squirrel.

This sounds alot like a cherokee replacement...The fact that it uses a existing dcx plattform soulds like a possible production vehicle, then again the origianl compass concept had a liberty plattform, then turned into a caliber

I can't help but be negatively critical here, I just don't see the market for this version of the Trailhawk, based on this news.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and step back a little. Remember, this is a CONCEPT vehicle. It is NOT a PRODUCTION vehicle ready to roll off the assembly line.

Very nice, but just another concept car that won't make it into production. I say put the 3.0 Diesel in the Wrangler and get on with it!!

My sentiments exactlly. Hey DCX you listening. Do you care. S--- can big budget concepts going nowhere. Gladiator Rescue Hurricane(What were you thinking) Drop the new diesels in the wrangler(been around forever) and make us happy. Us being the people that need good fuel economey but still want to have fun under 35k. Oh and on the political side. 10mpg gas totals way more green house gas than 35mpg diesel. Later ELM

Cherokee with Unlimited Wrangler Rubicon guts
Hard to interpret what they are saying here. But it would be cool if they took the frame and powertrain from the Unlimited Wrangler Rubicon and bolted on a XJ Cherokee body. That would be a great replacement for my 99 XJ. It would also make a great replacement for the Liberty. One of the things I like about my XJ is that most of the powertrain is in common to the Wrangler but has more room .

This sounds very interesting and im looking forward to see the vehicle. Being a concept it will probably never come to market but if so it would be YEARS more than likely.....

I wonder if the 2008 Liberty might be hiding some of these features in its cameo shots?

So let me get this straight. They're going to base a vehicle on the Wrangler, but will have the comforts of a WK? Does anyone else find this to sound like a Cherokee-come back? Not that it will happen... but isn't that what Jeep SUVs used to be in the first place??

Actually, the Patriot is very close to the Cherokee in size, weight, and appearence. But, it appears DC will only be offering the Patriot with a 2 liter gasser in the US, whereas the exports will be offered with six speed manual and turbo diesel.

I wish DC would quit wasting money on these concept vehicles and ludicrous advertising campaigns and instead invest the same time and money into a viable diesel program offered with six speed manual tranny. What's it gonna take?

. . . less government regulations on the automotive industry. I'm afraid after the recent elections, things will get worse.

Where was the big biodiesel push from the R's when they controlled various parts of our government for the last 6-12 years? Nowhere.

I am no blind champion of the Democrats but I find it unrealistic to think Diesel engines and renewable fuels would be less advanced after the current elections.

And if they are I would be the first one to bitch about it

I don't know why they abandoned this formula in the first place. Wasn't the Cherokee a success?

Re: 2007 NAIAS: Jeep Trailhawk Concept Vehicle
The funny part about all this is the full circle that the automotive industry has run. We used to have station wagons and vans. Then we had the minivan, which you could say was a cross over and the industry stopped making station wagons. Then we had minivans and capable SUVs. Those two segments blurred to become softroaders and CUVs and the industry basically stopped making capable SUVs. As well, GM and Ford have both decided to stop making Minivans in favour of CUVs just as other manufacturers start making station wagons (the Magnum and all those 5-doors we see) again and now start belting out more capable SUVs again ie: the new 4-door Wrangler, this Trailbhawk concept, the H3 and the Toyota FJ. Fact is, folks. The public is fickle and the auto industry will follow us where ever we go... AND... right back again. Not to mention the resurgence of big, rear-wheel drive sedans. DC's lineup of Hemi powered RWD sedans, station-wagons and now a couple of very capable SUVs makes 2007 look a lot like the 70s all over again.
