MiscellaneousJeep Brand Experimenting with Lifestyle Keyword Hyperlinks

AdWeek.com has an interesting article about Chrysler Group's recent foray into lifestyle term keyword linking on popular web sites.

With Web video inventory in short supply, DaimlerChrysler is streaming clips in a novel way by using hyperlinks to lay claim to lifestyle terms like "freedom" that it associates with its brands.

For intance, a visitor to PopularMechanics.com, FoxSports.com or iVillage will see a double green hyperlink under terms like "adventure" for Jeep. Unlike most hyperlinks that direct users to editorial sources, these links are ads and hovering over them will be pop-up video teasers for the brand; clicks go through to the Web site. "This is strictly about getting someone not on a Jeep site onto a Jeep site," said George Murphy, svp of global marketing at DaimlerChrysler.

Check out the entire article. Have you seen any of these ads? What do you think? Are the effective?

Too bad I already have adblocking capabilities in my Security Software and in Firefox! I rarely see ads and I have never received a popup since switching to Firefox with the AdBlockerPlus ad-on.

This is a fun idea as long as it doesn't wear out its welcome like pop-ups did.

Go read through some threads on the Jeeps Unlimited forum:

When they keep getting in the way of what you're trying to read, you'll start to see just how fun they really are!

Ugh, No! I see this stupid things on lots of tech sites where I search for help with software development issues. They're horrible. They make it so you can't scroll the page with your mouse wheel lest you accidentally scroll one of them under your cursor at which point a freaking video pops up over the article you're reading. They're as slimy and low as pop up, pop under, and those awful flash ads that come zooming in from the side of the screen.
