SalesJeep Sales Slightly Down in August

Chrysler LLC reported their first sales numbers since the un-merger a few weeks ago, and as expected, they're not great. On the whole, Chrysler sales were down about 6%. Jeep sales didn't do quite as bad, but had it been not for the stellar sales of the Wrangler the the gaining sales of the Compass (no, really!), things would have been a lot worse.

I think the Compass sales gain has a lot to do that a year ago Compass product was just ramping up.

From the official press release:

The Jeep(R) brand was down 1 percent versus last year while Wrangler and Compass posted gains over August 2006. Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited posted sales of 9,464 units, up 58 percent compared to August 2006 with 6,002 units sold. The Jeep Compass finished the month with sales of 3,625 units, up 76 percent from last year.

Full sales numbers after the jump.

Where are all those people who said the Compass would not sell?

Compass, Patriot & Caliber have combined sales in excess of 125,000 units YTD. That is great!

Well, I don't have a major in economics. But, If the volume change is up 10%,. reasonably doesn't that allude that Jeep is actually gaining market share on the whole? I also like the numbers I am seeing for the patriot. prediction: patriot will sell 6,000 next month and liberty will take another 50% sales hit due to limited availability of the new model.

Well it seems like the sales #'s for the Wranglers are starting to slip a little. They've been in the 11,000 - 13,000 range for a while...
It must be time to bring out the bigger engines.
You watch, I'm betting if the sales stay under 10,000 for the Wranglers 4-6 months you'll see the CRD or Hemi for the 2009 MY.

If Jeep really wants to steal back some of the Hummer market - they are going to need some heavy hitting engines that can tow.
If they want to steal some of the Toyota market - they are going to need to do it efficiently.
They've got the parts, just do it already!

On a positive note - The Wranglers are the best selling model for the last year. That's what I like to see... the icon back on top of the pile :)
