WranglerJeep gets Army contract
Posted by jpsmith on 2007/10/3 7:49:17 (3751) reads

According to AllPar.com, Chrysler LLC was awarded a contract to deliver long-wheelbase Jeeps to the army. This doesn't appear to be for the recently announced J8, but rather a military version of the Wrangler Unlimited.

Chrysler International Corp. was awarded a $38 million contract for commercial Wrangler long wheelbase Jeeps, diesel engines, transmissions, and transfer cases by the U.S. Army Tank - Automotive and Armaments Command in Warren, Michigan. The contract was initiated in June 2006, and delivery is due by February 2008.

AllPar.com doesn't list their source for this news, so if anyone has any additional details, let us know.

 Re: Jeep gets Army contract
They already have trouble keeping up with supply of Wranglers. How is this good news for us consumers. 38 millions breaks down to about 1000 vehicles (approx 38k per vehcile because of Diesiel and upgrades). So they make it sound like a huge deal when its really not and only going to further delay production. HOW ABOUT GETTING RID OF THE CRAPPY COMPASS AND PATRIOT AND JUST HAVING THOSE FACTORIES MAKING WRANGLERS. YOU HAVE TO STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT. PEOPLE CAN ONLY WAIT SO LONG FOR THEIR VEHICLES TO BE BUILT. AND WHILE YOU ARE AT IT HOW ABOUT SOME OF THOSE DIESELS FOR THE US CONSUMER MARKET!!

It says the work is going to be done in Auburn Hills, MI. Not Toledo. I agree with you that it's ridiculous that they can't keep up with demand, but at the same time it doesn't sound like this deal is going to have any effect on Civilian Jeep production.
Wait a min... Civilian Jeep production...
CJ production...
Wow... when's the last time anyone said that!?

Work will be performed in Auburn Hills, Mich., and is expected to be completed by Feb. 22, 2008. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This was a sole source contract initiated on June 29, 2006. The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Warren, Mich., is the contracting activity (W56HZV-07-C-0610).

Now how do we get one?!
