Wrangler2007 Wrangler Sets All-time Sales Record
Posted by mike on 2008/1/4 8:50:08 (3002) reads

The Jeep Wrangler broke its all-time sales record with over 119,000 vehicles sold during calendar year 2007.

Jeep sales were down 3% for 2007 compared with 2006, but Chrysler attributes this to "planned fleet reductions".

Overall Jeep brand sales declined 3 percent based on planned fleet reductions. Jeep Wrangler sales were up 4 percent for the month with 9,007 units versus 8,623 units for December 2006. With 119,243 units sold in 2007, Jeep Wrangler sales surpassed 100,000 units with an all-time sales record, versus 80,271 sold in 2006, up 49 percent.

"We're thankful to our customers for the response they've shown to our products," Steven Landry, Executive Vice President -- North American Sales, said. "Jeep Wrangler is one example with an all-time sales record for the year that surpasses 100,000 units. With new models, bold designs and fuel efficient alternatives, we're excited about the products like the Dodge Journey, Challenger and Ram, and the launch of two new SUV hybrids -- the Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango -- and believe we're well positioned for 2008."

Wrangler sales are very impressive and reflect the solid product improvement and market wants for the larger four door vehicle. Now for a reality check. Wrangler sales would be even higher if the model mix was correct and was meeting the demand for the Rubicon model, even higher still if the diesel engine was available and a higher powered gas engine was standard. Jeep's Marketing gurus will be the first to respond that "dealers can always sell what they can't get" but this is not the case with the 2008 Wrangler. Jeep has a great product which can be even better if they address the issues identified by the customer and respond quickly. Those of us waiting for a Rubicon, or a diesel are getting anxious. I can't imagine the frustration of those waiting for a JT.

Yeah, that's great. Some of the Jeep models are doing very well, so we're going to continue to focus on the crap we put out under the under brands.

Granted the new ram looks good - like a last gen Dakota. But this Dodge Journey thing? Gah! Could it get any more blah? It's like the "Imported for Dodge" Colt for the new millennium.

No F'ing kidding. Please notice: The JK and JK Unlimited are all lumped together. I wonder what the break doen of those numbers are splitting the two up?

The JK Unlimited is what many off roaders have been waiting for....a capable vehicle with room for the family. I'd also like to see how many of the JK 4drs were sold with 2WD

Plus Jeep was able to add some creature comforts (like power windows and locks) without sacrificing some of the Wrangler/CJ signature points (like removing the doors). Having the only 4 dr convertable fills another niche.

On the odd chance that there are any Jeep big wigs reading this:
Now there is no doubt that people are screaming for a diesel - ANY diesel (the 3.0 CRD from the Grand, the 2.8 for the old KJ, or a baby Cummins) Whether it is for the low end torque, or the MPG This could be touted as the most fuel efficient Wrangler ever (making those CAFE standards easier to meet?) the diesel option will only sell MORE.

That breakdown would be interesting, indeed. I've heard numbers like 60/40 or 70/30 split between 4dr/2dr JK's... which is much more than the suits anticipated... which is partly why they're so backlogged.

Also, as we've heard, 4-dr Rubicon demand is much higher than anticipated. It's a good predicament for JEEP to be in, as long as they don't let a long backlog persist until some buyers lose interest...

Maybe someone can pull those numbers together: X-model vs. Sahara vs. Rubicon (2dr & 4dr, soft top & hardtop, 2WD & 4WD). Jeez, it gets dicey in a hurry!

Good. Now JEEP, take some of that dough and let's get the JT on track for '09!

A rumor of a Jeep-based truck has been reported in the latest issue of Jp Magazine. It states that Jeep may be developing a diesel-powered "truck" based on the Dakota (or was that Durango?) platform and the front clip looks like the new Liberty.

Hmmm, what's the matter JEEP? Too much positive response on the JT concept, so you just had to mix things up?

Just do the JT as is & get on with it! Diesel or not, they'll sell! I'll even opt for the hearing aid beige!

Possibly more amazing is that the GC still sold over 120,000! I wouldn't have guessed that.

I'm not sure how awful it would be. I caught a glimpse of the new Liberty on the road the other day. I started looking at it and found it looking a little more appealing.

I kind of like the new Liberty too, but it would be a shame if they don't build a JK based pickup.

Here's the Quotation (Jp Magazine, MAR08):
JEEP NEWS & RUMORS
Says a bird: Apparently, there's a Jeep pickup coming. It's rumored to sit on the Dodge Dakota chassis with a Liberty-like front clip, and it'll be available with a Cummins diesel; no word on whether that's the V-6 or inline-four.
