MiscellaneousChrysler Official Responds to Mahindra Rumor: No
Posted by mike on 2008/2/14 9:26:45 (2233) reads

The Toledo Blade is reporting that Chrysler spokesman David Barnas answered, "No", when responding to a question about whether Chrysler was discussing the sale of the Jeep brand.

While this may be reassuring, it is not uncommon for these negotiations to happen at such a high level, and often in secret, such that spokespeople simply aren't aware.

It is unclear whether Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. of Mumbai is attempting to purchase the Jeep brand or arrange a licensing arrangement to make the vehicle. Other possible options include either negotiating to make parts or forming a joint venture with the Auburn Hills, Mich., automaker.

Chrysler officials yesterday denied an Economic Times of India story published Sunday discussing the prospects.

"No," Chrysler spokesman David Barnas responded to whether Chrysler was discussing a sale of the Jeep brand.

"Jeep is not for sale," he said.

Attempts to reach a Mahindra spokesman yesterday were unsuccessful.

Industry analysts in the United States indicated that the Indian firm likely isn't trying to purchase the brand that was born in Toledo. The Toledo Jeep Assembly complex makes all of the Jeep Wranglers and Libertys sold worldwide.

Assuming that Mahindra is just looking for a licensing deal, this story might have a happy ending after all.

The lessons of Wall Street:
Gordon Gekko: Greed is good...
Gordon Gekko: What's worth doing is worth doing for money...
Gordon Gekko: Greed captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit...
Bud Fox: Why do you need to wreck this company?
Gordon Gekko: Because it's WRECKABLE, all right? I took another look at it and I changed my mind!

One question remains: Is Gordon Gecko really a 3-headed dog that guards the Gates of Hades?

As big as M&M is, an all-out purchase of JEEP is unlikely...Mabye a purchase of a minority share of JEEP stock to get licensing rights to the Wrangler to update their product line, not unlike what GM did with Subaru... Mabye a Joint Venture to put their diesel hybrid engines into the Wrangler (Sell 'em in the US too!!!).

But with Jeep sales going as well as they have been going, Cerebus would be smart to sell off other products, and just become the JEEP corporation.

B.S.! Don't believe it. Anything's possible and
EVERYTHING'S 4 SALE!! I'm sure AMC JEEP initially "wasn't for sale" in early news reports when Chrysler was eyeing it!
Didn't these guys see Indecent Proposal ?

Yeah I agree anything is possible. Is this the same spokesperson that was pushing the message that Daimler and Chrysler were a merger of equals?
