Step into the way-back machine by clicking on over to Hemmings Auto Blogs for some great old Jeep ads.

The ads are from 1960s era Farm Journals, and showcase the classic "real McCoy" Jeep as well as the "Jeep-and-a-half" Cherokee and Wagoneer.

 Re: Vintage Jeep Ads
Man I love looking at old Jeep heritage. I notice the "Jeep-and-a-Half" add uses the phrase, "sport utility vehicle." When was that phrase coined? Are we looking at it right here?

When I was a kid in the early '80s, my dad had Cherokee after Cherokee, with a Scout mixed in. He'd by them when they were 8 or 9 years old with 100k+ miles, drive them for a year or two, then grab another one. I remember referring to it simply as "the Jeep," and I remember knowing it was technically a station wagon. Then I remember around the era of the Bronco II hearing the phrase "sport utility vehicle." I'm really surprised to read that phrase in this old ad.
