SalesJeep Sales Down 14% (Updated)

Despite Jeep sales falling 14% during February, Chrysler LLC tried to put a positive light on the news by highlighting the fact that the Patriot had its best month ever, with over 5,000 vehicles sold.

"While the auto industry is experiencing the impact of slow economic growth, Chrysler LLC February results reflect progress within each brand," Vice Chairman and President Jim Press said. "The positive numbers for Dodge cars, the all-new Chrysler Town & Country and the Jeep® Patriot prove our renewed focus on consumer feedback, such as the demand for good fuel economy, is resonating—and translating into sales of our New Day Value Packages."

The all-new Jeep Patriot set a new sales record for the month of February with 5,195 units sold. The vehicle is one of Chrysler's recently introduced models that achieve 28 miles per gallon or better in highway driving.

Wow. Some spin.

Perhaps most surprising are the sales of the Wrangler - down 27%. This could be due to the initial surge of buyers finally winding down.

Full sales figures after the jump.

Here is another "Quick Fix" for lagging Jeep sales. Stop building the GC SRT-8 and build more GC diesels. There are already too many new SRT's on Dealer lots and an excess of used SRT's on the secondary market including about 20 on Ebay. I know it is a neat car, but clearly the answer to the question that NOBODY asked! Chrysler LLC, are you listening??

The others have said it before, I'm just repeating it:
Build the darned diesel Wrangler for the US.
I'll sell my UnLTD Rubi and by a CRD.
That ought to help sales figures +.01% and there's another 10,000 just like me wanting the diesels.

Wrangler sales are down because of a) the overwhelming initial numbers would be difficult sustain long term (mainly because of) b) they have buyers that are bailing since they have to waiting for production to catch up with demand.

Chrysler's so stupid. Someone needs to buy Jeep from these dummies and start doing right by their customers...

Anybody shopping for a Wrangler Rubicon can explain why the sales of Wrangler are down. The new Chrylsler LLC has NOT responded to the demand for the Rubicon and continues to build the less desirable model and option mix. In addition there are a flood of the loaded Sahara models sitting in Dealer inventory. Yeah, I understand it is a supplier parts issue but that is the same excuse they used for the TJ Rubicon versions. If you recall, they have had to cancel as many as 8000 Rubicon orders in the past because of capacity issues. If they are really listening to the CUSTOMER, why not build what the market is calling for, more Rubicons and what about the Wrangler Diesel for the US market. Two quick fixes for lagging sales---ARE YOU LISTENING?

 Grand Cherokee
As an owner of a 2007 Grand Cherokee, I have to say that Jeep should NOT turn the GC into a commander. I keep hearing how they want to kill the commander, and then turn the GC into a larger vehicle that has more style cues from the Commander. LOOK at the sales numbers for one thing. The Commander sales are worse than the GC. If you make the GC too big, you will lose people in the market for a mid-size suv that is not as cheap as the liberty. Just a warning to Jeep. Dont screw this up. If you want a commander, then keep the commander around.

I keep hearing this on forums such as this one and speculation pieces. I don't think I've read anything from Chrysler that says they're planning to do this. Just lots of speculation.

Interesting that Liberty sales beat Wrangler for the month. And the Liberty has healthy rebate offers ($2000+). Could a rebate for the Wrangler be coming soon?

I'll betcha they could easily sell >2000 JTs/month to bump that Wrangler line back up. Tick tock tick tock...
