Winding Road just updated their page about their time with the 2008 Jeep Liberty.

My time in the Liberty was quite short, but it was long enough to know that I would eagerly drive it again. I really didnít care for the last-generation Liberty, especially its quirky styling and cramped interior. This new model seems to be a vast improvement.

The only other real downside to this car is the fuel economy, which is as atrocious as anything else in its class. For 22k, Iíd say itís a fine value, and everything youíd expect from a Jeep.

That's a "long term test drive?" Seems they hardly did more than kick the tires.

"I canít stand it when all the doors lock, and stay locked, except for the driverís side door. Itís very frustrating when your hands are full and you want that back door to open." Hi. That's programmable.

It's usually cheaper to buy gas than to pay for service visits. So, as long as the reliability remains high, the cost of ownership will be reasonable...

Of course, if you'd prefer a 35mpg hybrid that costs $3000-5000 in the shop every other month... and costs you $2500 to replace the spent battery pack... you can retain MPG bragging rights.

Gas is cheap. An extra buck a gallon costs me $20/week (for 20 gal.) and only ~$1000/year extra. Just keep me out of the service shop!
