SalesAnalyst Suggests Chrysler May Have to Sell Jeep Brand
Posted by mike on 2008/7/5 18:28:38 (1429) reads

From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

Faced with soaring gas prices, a sputtering economy and a rapid U.S. market shift away from trucks, the U.S. auto industry’s weakest player, Chrysler, may have to file for bankruptcy or sell its storied Jeep and Dodge Ram brands as early as next year, according to a JPMorgan analyst.

But rivals GM and Ford are likely to get through the rough patch and turn a profit in 2010.

The article goes on to say that because Chrysler is so heavily reliant on truck sales, they are in a far more difficult position than Ford and GM.

Analysts are like weather predictors, wrong most of the time. Chrysler would be idiots to sell Jeep.

Everyone has their panties in a wad over gas prices when they have only gone up less than $1. This time next year this will all be forgotten and GIANT SUV's will be back.

I seriously doubt it...

Chrysler is already setting up a Global alliiance that will probably include Nissan, Renault, and possibly VW and Mahindra and Mahindra

Chrysler is making plans through 2015, including building the new TITAN pickup for Nissan.

Alot of the shutdowns and plant idling has to do with market strategy and product rearrangement in regards to the new EPA CAFE standards (which by the way, the larger the vehicle, the lower the CAFE standard)

If a sale DID happen, my money would go towards GM, Nissan or Mahindra and Mahindra (Who are going to have the FIRST Diesel Electric Hybrid on the market) making the purchase.

GM would be best served selling Jeeps instead of copying them, Nissan could sell Jeeps too, but more importantly, acquire the RAM line, and M&M have been making Jeeps almost as long as Jeep, and they are looking for a headway into America.
