MiscellaneousUniversity of Michigan Rates Jeep Dead Last in Consumer Satisfaction

If you're an optimist, you're thinking that there's no where to go but up. The American Consumer Satisfaction Index, in conjunction with the University of Michigan released its rankings for vehicle manufacturers and the Jeep Brand came in last place behind every other major automobile manufacturer for vehicles sold in the United States.

The Jeep brand scored 76 out of 100, which is actually up 1.3 points over 2007. Since the rankings were started in 1995, the Jeep brand has actually decreased 2.6 points.

Consumer satisfaction has never been a strong point with the Jeep brand, I think it is mainly due to the fact that many of the Jeep models are quite noisy at highway speeds, and the vast majority of Jeep owners never take their vehicles off-road.

You can check out the raw scores - you'll have to scroll a bit to get to the "
Automobiles & Light Vehicles" section.

Time Magazine also has a nice write-up about the rankings.

I can see this as the case. I *JUST* was at Adams Jeep in Annapolis about a seatbelt that won't retract. (passenger side, fortunately) My '05 Unlimited doesn't have 36k miles... yet. (prolly will by the end of the weekend) But, it's a few months out of the coverage period. I spoke to Kevin Fox there (who I had bought two Jeeps from) and asked if there was anything that could be done since I was barely out of the time frame. He got a *thinking* look on his face and flat out said, "Nope." I walked out, letting a sales rep know they just lost business. I am in the market for another vehicle to be able to have the '05 as a true toy. And, I have a bud who's looking for a 2 door. NEITHER of us are going to Adams in Annapolis now. You'd think they'd show loyalty to those who have shown them loyalty. (there are Jeep dealers closer than they are) ... especially over a part that costs less than $100. Oh well... shows you idiots are everywhere.

I have a grand cherokee and its the best vehicle i have ever owned. Smoothest ride, quiet on the inside. It's almost too nice for a jeep. I'm a repeat buyer. I owned an 89 wrangler for about 7 years but had to sell it due to not having AC and I moved to Houston.... Way too hot for no AC. Might buy a JK to replace my grand... but maybe the grand has pampered me too much....

Road noise my a$$! Give me my old CJ-7 back!!

Oohh, sorry, reflex reaction to any article that talks about road noise in the same breath as JEEPs...

I'd like to see a survey that measures how many "repeat buyers" are faithful to each car brand. I'm thinking JEEP has a high percentage of faithful repeat buyers. That would seem to fly in the face of this so-called consumer satisfaction study. But I could be wrong...

Let's add some opposing questions to the next UM survey:

1) Would you drive your vehicle over a 2-foot high snow bank and expect NOT to get stuck?

2) Would you consider driving your vehicle on a sandy beach?

3) Would you use your current vehicle to traverse down a steep wooded trail to get to your campsite?

If you've answered NO to all three questions, you must be driving a Camry, Civic, or a grocery-getter, and you don't belong in the same control volume of survey participants... BYE
