Chrysler LLC reported that May, 2009 sales were the strongest for the year. Jeep Wrangler continued its strong upward sales trend for the fifth month in a row, with May retail sales up 4 percent year-over-year compared to May 2008 and up 8 percent compared to the previous month. The Wrangler also increased its share of the segment for the fifth month in a row. Overall, the Jeep brand retail sales were up 21 percent compared to April 2009.

"May was a very encouraging retail month for Chrysler and the industry," said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President North American Sales and Marketing, Service and Parts - Chrysler LLC. "Retail sales for the industry came in stronger than expected and our retail performance during our restructuring was even stronger than the industry, giving us improved share and optimism that the market is showing signs of life."

Re: May Sales Best of 2009
could this be because?
1. better incentives (employee princing plus plus)
2. getting one before fiat gets to it
3. summer coming (everyone wants a convertible during summer

Although quantity didn't change, the volume change says something for the venerable Wrangler.

Re: May Sales Best of 2009
Points 2 and 3 make sense but as far as point 1 goes, the Employee Pricing deal grew steadily worse as it went along. 0% for 60 months for 08s and 2.9% for 60 months for 09s along with a $500-$2000 loyalty rebate disappeared at the end of February. The rebates got cut at the end of March and again at the end of April. February of 2009 was probably the best set of incentives ever offered by Chrysler.
