As part of Chrysler 5-year plan moving forward that is being announced today, the Jeep brand will play a crucial part in growing Chrysler's presence overseas.
According to the Wall Street Journal:
Ailing auto maker Chrysler Group LLC is counting on the iconic Jeep brand to help drive its turnaround.
As part of a new five-year business strategy it will unveil Wednesday, Chrysler is expected to spell out a plan to expand Jeep's sales dramatically, especially in overseas markets, people familiar with the matter said.
"Jeep is an export-viable product that could end up with significant sales," said Jim Hall, managing director of 2953 Analytics, an automotive consulting firm. "There are lots of countries where Jeeps are desirable vehicles, like Brazil."

I would be cautiously optimistic about the chance of the diesel version arriving here stateside. Everything we've heard from our sources at Chrysler indicate that this is an option that is still under consideration but the business case has not presented significant cause to pursue it in the U.S. Let's hope this is wrong as a diesel Wrangler is exactly what the U.S. Jeep market needs!

Great, so we will get to read all about the awesome diesel and power train options for export models and we'll be stuck with the same old BS in the US.

I think I've spotted a flaw in the plans...
11:55AM Chrysler going to be adding Fiat electrical architectures to its lineup. Italians and electrics don't seem to go well together. |

12:14PM Diesel Jeep Wrangler coming Q4 2010! 12:15PM Note: He's not really clear if the diesel Jeep will be available in the U.S., though we can be sure it will overseas in Europe. The diesel is already available in Europe. First application of start-stop technology will be the Wrangler in Q4 2010. |
