Bloomberg (via Autoblog) is reporting what we all suspected has been happening for the past few weeks - dealers are just as frustrated as we are with the new Jeep advertising campaign.
According to Bloomberg, Chrysler and its dealer body are playing out this very struggle. Dealers are unhappy with the company's new advertising efforts and budget changes that have been made as part of the recently enacted five year business plan. Facing sales that were down twenty five percent in November, dealers have asked that the new ads focusing on lifestyle and brand-building, such as the latest Jeep spots, be stopped. Advertising that shows vehicles and their features, along with a harder sell on the price and incentive front would be preferable to the dealers.
Do you know anybody who actually likes the new commercials?

The current "lifestyle" ad campaign is about 2 years too late. The era of bling is over... Yup you heard it hear first.
Seriously, why do you think Jeep brand just took #1 position for retaining resale value? Good, affordable, basic transportation in combination with fanatic loyalty. Build on what is unique to Jeep, and yeah incentives help too. Moron ad companies need to wake up and smell the recession. |

I must admit it was refreshing just seeing any Jeep commercial after the Chrysler crashing, government controlling, Fiat give-away soap opera.
Yes, these ads are obviously designed for the female buyer...but guess what...the Wrangler under the old Chrysler, LLC and Daimler Chrysler was being "softened" already with more creature comforts and (choke) car-like qualities. What these knuckleheads need to understand is that the Jeep mystique is kept alive by the folks who remember where these rigs came from... and, that if they wanted a car or a cross-over SUV they would turn to Chevrolet, Ford or any of the many other foreign auto makers. Fiat/Chrysler needs to hear from the real Jeep folks or they will inevitably screw things up...so contact the "suits" at corporate and tell them what you think...before it's too late. Anybody else get the impression that the morons running Jeep have not once actually OWNED a f*&%ing Jeep?
You thought Daimler was an incompetent stuard of the jeep brand? Fiat makes them look brilliant by comparison. Fiat, Please fix this or sell the Jeep brand to someone who will know what to do with it. -Justin. |

Is the Jeep Marketing Department intentionally trying to drive sales down? First they show two ads about clocks and TV’s which demonstrates nothing about what the vehicle can do. It’s not a feeling that gets me to work in any type of driving condition, it’s my Jeep, which I “drive”, not “ride”. Then, as I sit here in the Northeast with temperatures heading towards the single digits and snow falling, I’m watching girls “riding” in a topless Wrangler? Hey it’s winter up here; why not show what a Jeep can do in the snow. You know, kind of like the Subaru ads. The current ad campaign seems to demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of the Jeep product line and its history. I’ve been a proud Jeep owner for 35 years. I just hope someone at Jeep realizes what they have and how to sell it so I can be proud for 35 more.

I don't mind the new one with the girls in Wranglers so much. It definitely emphasizes the Wrangler's appeal to Jeep girls, but I don't think the commercial relegates it to "chick car" status. At least it emphasizes the product, with highlights on the top-down capabilities of the Wrangler. The other TV spots are just plain goofy to me, where you don't know what on earth they're talking about until the vehicle is shown. I'm with the Jeep dealer group. Change up the ads and ad budget.

I like some of the new ads. The one with girls in wrangles is kinda refreshing. Its not quite the "Time of out lives" but it works. I think its fair to point out that both hardcore and regular people buy Jeeps. My Wrangler may not go on the trails daily, but its nice to know that it can handle almost all I can throw at it.

I thought the new commercials were terrible and I even felt a little embarrassed because, as a Jeep owner, I feel somehow connected to these atrocities. I thought they were terrible, that is, until I saw the latest one - the one with the woman talking about her hair cut and her Jeep Wrangler. Now I think they're far worse than terrible. They're the most idiotic, embarrassing, and pompous pieces of video fluff I've ever seen. I'm ashamed of Chrysler for green-lighting these steaming piles.
