Re: Jeep Sales Up Across the Board
Well, the Jeep brand has been owned by several of the past 30+ years and IMO since Chrysler made the purchase they have made numerous mistakes in production and marketing. They did accomplish to produce the Wrangler RUBICON which has been the greatest addition since the first CJ hit the market. However they have lowered the standards of the Jeep brand by including the Compass & Liberty under the name. These should have been placed under the Chrysler name since they are honestly useless as an off-road vehicle. Jeep means "Off-Road" people....Take the line back to where it was, move forward on providing a utility Jeep that the buyers and enthusiasts want. Oh, and BTW, you don't have to put all the modern comforts in it either that only raises the costs of production and purchase. There is a HUGE following of the Wrangler...Bring back the simple mechanics, sell more, and please more.

With Wrangler sales down by 34% the message seems to be the tough economy and an unwillingness to lay out nearly $30K for loaded Wranglers which appear to be sitting on the Dealer lots these days. Jeep Marketing continues to "SLIP" away from its roots with the expanded and 'Ginger Bread" laden vehicles. Function and value are not the priority for the current crop of designers and maketing folks. Until they return to building true JEEPS the sales will be erratic. Jeep is clearly at risk of losing its identity.

The big winner is the compass, while the big loser is Wrangler. Now if they could only come up with a trail capable Jeep that got great fuel mileage and didn't cost more than a 1970's house they'd sell like hotcakes. Less foo foo soft stuff too while they are add it. Get back to hose it out when dirty interiors.
