(portions from a Chrysler press release)

Chrysler Group LLC released images today of the new 2011 Jeep® Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited. Jeep continues to refine the successful Wrangler formula by combining its legendary, benchmark capability with an all-new interior that delivers rich styling with significantly upgraded touch surfaces, occupant comfort and versatility, and a premium appearance courtesy of an all-new body-color hard top for the popular Sahara model.
"The iconic Jeep Wrangler keeps getting better," said Mike Manley, President and CEO - Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "While retaining unmatched, legendary capability, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler boasts an all-new interior that delivers a host of comfort, convenience and versatility features. In addition, Sahara models now feature a stunning, all-new body-color hard top, for customers looking for a Jeep Wrangler with a more premium appearance."

New 2011 Jeep Wrangler interior highlights include a redesigned instrument panel and new storage areas with improved ergonomics and upgraded materials. A new lockable console and upgraded door armrest areas boast comfortable touch points, while a redesigned center stack is easier to reach and operate. Heated, power mirrors are now available, and drivers and passengers will enjoy enhanced visibility courtesy of larger rear windows.

Jalopnik.com has some great additional picks as well.

All-new steering-wheel controls allow the driver to operate the radio, cruise control, hands-free phone and other vehicle functions while keeping hands on the wheel. A new USB device interface connects to storage devices (thumb drives and most MP3 players) for use with the vehicle’s Media Center, which now includes streaming Bluetooth audio. Twelve-volt accessory outlets have been added and a new 110-volt outlet is available to provide power similar to AC outlets in the home.

In line with traditional Jeep design, hex-head bolts are utilized throughout the interior, and are used to mount a “Jeep, Since 1941” inlay onto the new passenger grab handle.

Jeep engineers increased acoustical treatment in the 2011 Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, resulting in significantly reduced interior noise.

To provide a more premium appearance, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Sahara models boast an all-new, premium, body-color hard top.

Several new Jeep Wrangler colors are available for 2011, including Detonator Yellow, Deep Cherry Red, Sahara Tan, Cosmos Blue and Bright White.

Production of the new 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited began earlier this week at the Toledo Assembly Complex in Toledo, Ohio.

For people who want a more premium look? Huh?

I have an XJ and a TJ. Sometimes I drive the TJ and wish I had the creature comforts of my XJ. I'll admit it. Sometimes I drive the XJ and wish that I could take the top & doors off. So I get it, I understand why people want the amenities.

But I don't believe in watering down the essence of the vehicle. They could just as easily offer a version of the Liberty with a removable top for the soccer-practice-&-groceries crowd and provide more rugged options on the JK & JKL than to water down the Wrangler with premium tops and steering wheel trinkets.

I hear you guys and understand, I owned a CJ-7 when i was in the AF up on Colorado and had a blast with that vehicle. I have owned a 95 and a 2005 luvd em both as well as 2 GC a 98 and 2004 liked them too, just not as much fun as the wrangler imo. I stopped by the dealer a few weeks ago when I saw a red wrangler with matching top and a white one, thought they were custom jobs. I found out jeep is now making the wrangler this way. I for one really like the new look of body and hardtop matching but would be a buyer of a soft top. Remember jeep is trying to sell to the masses not just the few that want it the way it was....in that case one could just get the base model and go from that point to customize. I will be in the market for a jeep next year but want an older jeep to turn into a military style daily driver....we shall see

Starting to look less "Wrangler" and more "Grand Cherokee" as far as the interior goes. I like my '07 interior !!! I'm glad nothing else significant changed in terms of styling. Still waiting for a more powerful engine though !!!

I agree 100% with MarkH and Glenn.
What the heck is Jeep thinking now?
I've been knodding my head (NO!) ever since they did away with a true (fold DOWN) tailgate.
They are systematically ruining the real Jeep year by year. These Jeeps are quickly becoming a tool to run to the mall instead of the trail.
It lost something when they took the "BIG center mounted school bus speedo" and "the sheet dashboard" and the "other "improvements" have eliminated the hose-out, wash-down capability"
This is slowly losing its heritage...lets see:
Airbags? They are not going to be effective traveling in low range, first gear. (I'd just as soon not have an explosion go off in my face, thank you there should be some sort of a waiver that you can sign to have this 'feature' deleted from YOUR vehicle) Chrysler corp should have been working with legislators to create a UTILITY type, off-road class of vehicle exempt from the normal junk that they are made to hang on the other typical road vehicles and don't take 'no' for an answer.

V6 engine? Come on, trails are meant to be narrow. Jeeps have almost always had an inline engine. Perhaps they should have outsourced the GM straight 5 cylinder or made one of their own.
And lots of other things that just bug me about 'new' Wranglers, no fold-down windshield? easy to remove doors and top? and like MarH said - that stupid rool cage

What's next independent front axle?
Give me a break
Let me get back to searching the classifieds for a truer Jeep.
end of rant

 Re: 2011 Wrangler Launches
I remember the "unnecessary" changes that bothered me over the years... Looking back, I guess the key fobs, P/S, A/C, P/W, and FM/CD/SAT radios have grown on me. Let's reminisce...

I had a CJ-5 with a 3-spd manual.
Then I was miffed when the CJ-7 had an option for 5 speed stick. Who needs FIVE SPEEDS? I opted for the 4 speed. No A/C. No power anything.

That CJ-7 had no power steering. That was an option, too. Who needs it? Then I bought a Wrangler and the power-assist was standard. The BIG center mounted school bus speedo (that I loved) was gone and some idiot designed an ugly plastic pad on the dash, and enclosed the gauges in plastic covers! Where'd the sheet metal dashboard go?

The next Wrangler had an ugly "full" roll cage that extended over the rear seat, instead of the slanted supports. JEEZ, what next?

Then later Wranglers had AIRBAGS. Well, that was a federal requirement... but AIRBAGS?! in a JEEP?!

When the JKs added optional side airbags and POWER WINDOW options, I really started to wretch. REAL JEEPS HAVE HAND-CRANKED WINDOWS! (Still available in the base version, for now.)

Now we can get heated mirrors, MOPAR heated seat kits, steering wheel audio controls.

But, I'll forgive all the creature comforts for that new 3.6L 280HP engine (MY'11). Hopefully the GC people get all the bugs worked out...

I do wish JEEP offerred a stripped version. It would weigh 500 pounds less, too!

Hmmmmmm, I wonder if I can install a coin-operated seat massager...

 Re: 2011 Wrangler Launches
sigh... What's next? Heated steering wheel? Neon ground lighting? 20" chrome wheels? Ground effects? All the Wrangler needs now is a good brush guard - gotta protect that legendary grille on the way through the suburbs to the childrens' soccer field!

Oh, it's nice that they include a plaque in front of the passenger to remind him that he's in a genuine Jeep(tm)(r) "historically significant" vehicle. That'll give him something to be proud of as he reaches for the power seat controls to set the lumbar support...

The Jeep is fast becoming a Range Rover, a formerly awesome 4x4 that slowly turned into a gas guzzling prestige-oriented SUV. The Toyota Land Rover would be another good example. Now that Hummer is history, why is Jeep trying to build one? Didn't they notice that the Hummer fell out of favor and became a symbol of the wasteful, oversized, ego-centric american auto industry?

Where's the fuel efficient little diesel we've been asking for? It's been talked about for YEARS, but I guess a color-coordinated plastic top is more important. I assume they're sticking with the 3.8 liter minivan engine...

Wait, don't tell me - all those switches on the steering wheel, USB ports, and other "improvements" have eliminated the hose-out, wash-down capability. Forgetting to put the top back up during a cloud burst probably voids the warranty, just like a cell phone. Pathetic.
