Last week at a show for Chrysler dealers in Orlando, Florida, a hybrid Jeep pickup truck was shown (no photos were shown). Of course no confirmation on this being built, but an article in egmCarTech states a Jeep pickup based on the 4-door Unlimited was given the green light and will appear in showrooms 3rd Quarter 2011.
From AutoNews:
Jeep CEO Michael Manley concluded his presentation to dealers by saying: “You never know what might show up in your showroom someday,” according to a person who attended the meeting. Manley then walked off the stage, and the pickup truck appeared.
Manley said nothing about whether Jeep will produce the pickup.
From FourWheeler:
Identical to the Wrangler from the B-pillar forward, the teaser had a small quarter window behind the front door and there will be some storage behind the front seats. Unlike the J8/Sarge this pickup had a true bed with a gap between it and the cab. The Unlimited-based pickup is said to retain the JKs link-coil suspension. In order to maintain pickup proportions and keep a useable bed length, the JK pickup did have an extended rear overhang and like the Gladiator, this concept had the spare tire mounted to the side of the bed.
From PickupTrucks:
Industry sources have told us that production of the Jeep pickup is expected to start in the third quarter of 2011, with the pickup badged as a 2012 model. It’s said to be based on the four-door Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited platform but with a two-door regular cab configuration with extra space behind the front seats for storage.
We have been teased for years on a Jeep Wrangler based pickup for years, but here is hoping they actually will come through. With the Ford Ranger due to end production, this would leave the small pickup truck field open, so who knows. Maybe Jeep sees the opportunity. I also suspect they are waiting to make this a 2012 as the Wrangler is due for a new engine. I doubt we will see a diesel, but then again, you never know...

To make this truck as successful as it should be, they MUST include a bare bones affordable model that people can upgrade on their own. They need to make it available and affordable to the common man to indoctrinate the young into the fray of Jeep owners. A loss leader that they can make up on upgrade kits that people can add as their needs require it. Because once you're in, your a Jeep fan for life.

I wonder if the Cummins 4.2 liter V-6 will be in production by then. A towing package with that motor and a Dana 60 rear would be sweet!!

The Nukizer front end would be a nice contrast to the Wrangler front end, that is already 5 years old....

Dear Mr. Manley, We both know that ain't no Gladiator. That's why you built the Nukizer.
You heard it from me first ![]() Jeep will produce a verison of the 2005 Gladiator AKA Grandpa-Mr. Rodgers for production. Maybe it will come with a matching cashmire sweater? You'll see the truck this Jan. in Detroit. The "Nukizer" will be a Mopar accessory add on. Change the front grill and put a J Series (real gladiator) hood on it and Poof! You have Nukizer! Bean counters: forever holding great progress back. |

Would love to see a "dog door" similar to what the Gladiator had.

I can't wait to see this on showroom floors. It's one thing for them to put a concept vehicle in front of the masses to show off coming features and generate buzz. It's something different for them to put a vehicle in front of dealers. Especially the way they did that.
I can't wait to see the thing. They've been toying with this idea for far too long not to at least try it. I think it will be like the 4-Door Wrangler: an idea they dismissed long ago that they look back and say "We really should have produced this from the beginning." Side-mounted spare. I can't wait… |

Speechless! All I can get out is: WOOHOO!!!
I totally agree with "xjgary" that these things will be a big seller. Jeep/Chrysler Group will be kicking themselves for not doing this earlier. |

These will sell like hotcakes! For people like me who like to take trips and explore, camping where the trail takes me, winter and summer, such a vehicle with a shell or pop-up camper would be perfect. Put a diesel in it and I'd HAVE to buy one!
