Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne confirms model year 2012 Wranglers to get a Pentastar engine (via Carscoop blog). Specific HP/torque ratings not announced yet.
If Jeep follows suit of past models, the HP/ft-lbs ratings for the Wrangler will be quoted slightly less than the Grand Cherokee's Pentastar numbers - just to keep the GCs image up a half notch. Whatever, it'll still be leaps and bounds above that pitiful minivan 3.8L.

This engine is a Jeepers dream....Multi-Air and MDS for gas mileage when cruising, power when rock crawling....Start-Stop for gas savings when held up in the line on the trail, and double-low creeping (instead of using the key and starter).

Yeah... It's going in EVERYTHING! They'd better hope they don't get a recall; it would affect nearly every model!
At least the It sorely needs it! ![]() |

The good news is: we've got a better chance for a FIAT diesel than we had B4.
The bad news is: we've got a better chance for a FIAT diesel than we had B4. ![]() HERE! This will whet your appetite! Acc. to ALLPAR: Fiat diesels will eventually power some Chrysler vehicles (possibly including Jeeps currently VM-powered), in export markets; however VM Motori continues to hold sway. The 4.2 liter Cummins V6 (190 hp, over 400 lb-ft) and a 5.0-liter Cummins V8 diesel are believed to still be in progress, but may have been dropped as they were reportedly unable to pass emissions (according to “MoparNorm” and others); others say they are still waiting in the wings for Chrysler to regain interest. The 4.5 Cummins QSB four cylinder is rumored to have high power but again, emissions are an issue for US sale. A Fiat diesel is reportedly being tested by Siemens for US certification in the 2012 Wrangler. My pretty reliable crystal ball says the Wrangler diesel to (possibly) be will be a FIAT 3.0L V6 MultiAir diesel with 250HP, but much more torque than the 3.6L Pentastar... and it will not be ready for MY2012... and it is destined for use in Wranglers sold overseas, first... ![]() |
