From a Chrysler press release

The new 2011 Jeep® Compass is an evolution of a legendary bloodline. It was born, heart and soul, from the core Jeep brand values of freedom, adventure, 4X4 capability and iconic beauty.

Even with such a deep-rooted family tree, the Jeep Compass has emerged as a bold spirit capable of carving out its own destiny and taking on a personality that is youthful, free and embodies a brave American spirit. It is that confidence, independence and freedom that are captured in the new advertising campaign called, "Bloodline." The new advertising campaign makes its debut this evening on local and national broadcast channels across the country.

"The new 2011 Jeep Compass boasts stunning new styling, with cues coming directly from the brand's premium icon – the Jeep Grand Cherokee," said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "Because Compass and Grand Cherokee share this premium design – while offering legendary Jeep capability – our new 'Bloodline' campaign makes perfect sense, and allows us to demonstrate that Compass is a progressive, fun-to-drive vehicle targeted to consumers that share the passion of the Jeep brand."

"Bloodline" showcases the Jeep Compass as it masters both urban and off-road adventures – staying true to the brand's legendary heritage. The campaign also features the illustrious bloodlines of father-daughter athletes, Muhammad and Laila Ali and father-son actors, James and Scott Caan, all of whom have ascended to greatness in their own right.

I thought the Compass' "bloodline" was the mighty mighty Dodge Caliber.

It's time for Fiat to tell us why we should buy this vehicle, other than because it has a name tag on it that resembles a formerly durable American vehicle.

I was at the Jeep dealer the other day and was actually really impressed with the 2011 changes to both the Patriot and Compass. I had previously thought the Compass was worthless but the FDII version is interesting and the new front and interior are really nice. The 2011 Patriot is nice looking as well and both get much improved reviews. Based on my 60 mile daily commute and rising gas prices I would consider one, most likely a Patriot.

The problem I see is that the Patriot and Compass are redundant since they are so similar.

More importnatly, once you add FDII to either vehicle, which is the only way I would buy them, the gas mileage inexplicably drops to the point that it no longer makes sense. FDII and the features that make it nice make the sticker price too high as well.

I like the Patriot better (all the right angles) but, yes, the Compass has been much improved. They should have still built a Rallye Edition with functional bells & whistles, but alas, they went luxo on us...

The main issue with the P&C that I see is price point. The Compass MSRP has increased, and if U try to equip a Patriot or Compass with similar features as the BASE Liberty, the price points nearly cross. So what's the point?

Given the choice between a similarly equipped Patriot, Compass, or Liberty, for the same price, the choice is clear.

Though, I do like the fact that U can still get hand-cranked windows and A/C delete on the Patriot for about $16K... except at that price, it's only a 2WD...
