Allpar.com has some info about next year's Jeep Compass (a.k.a. MK79):

The first MK79 was finished! This was all wheel drive, with the same shared components. This was a gas engine with a CVT (continuously variable automatic transmission). The look is all Jeep, with the seven slot grill. Very close to the look of the Liberty up front, hood headlights, but the sidemarker/blinkers are on the fender next to the headlights and come to a triangle towards the edge of fenders, and front fenders have bulge angled towards the top rear of fender at the mirror. There is a slight "S" curve ant the body line at the rear door the curves downwards and runs into a similar bulged starting at the middle of the door that leads to the rear of the JEEP. Tail lights are close to current Cherokee.

Here's the entire article.

Also, TheCarConnection.com has some cammoflauged spy shots of the Compass for you to look at - not a whole lot to see though... Edmunds.com has similar photos.

I think Allpar meant MK49, not MK79. There is no MK79, right?

I also have been looking forward to the Compass but so far it looks a fair bit bulkier and less sporty than the concept. Hope it looks better when they unwrap it.

07 Jeep Compass: just another Dodge
not being a hardcore offroader yet owning an 02 liberty renegade, i've spent the last two years anticipating the arrival of the onroad Compass - a very sexy beast - being right in the middle of their target demographic i gotta say that, by judging the spy pics, DC not only dropped the ball, but took a 12-guage to it - taking a wicked concept vehicle and obliterating it by what looks like a refacing of Dodge's Caliber - Four doors? Are you kidding? This vehicle was supposed to be for a younger, entry-level market, not soccer moms (and not that there's anything wrong with that, just saying DC apparently forgot who they were building this Jeep for...) Give me my soft-roading two-door with neoprene interior, and i'm there. Otherwise, the Big 3, and Jeep moreover, have lost another fan to Mazda, Toyota, and the rest of the overseas crew. ARG.

Well, if DC decides to treat the North Americans in the same manner as the Europeans and provide us with the diesel and manual tranny, then this will be my next vehicle. No diesel or manual tranny, then I will go with the upcoming VW CrossGolf with 4Motion and manual/diesel or perhaps the Subaru. I think the North Americans are mature and adventurous enough to handle a diesel with manual tranny -- no need for CVT training wheels.
