SalesJeep Sales Surge 53%
Posted by mike on 2005/8/3 9:00:00 (1688) reads

July sales for Jeep brand products surged 53 percent to 56,280 units, the highest sales total for Jeep since its inception.

"Our July results were made possible by the 'perfect storm' of great products, clear and direct pricing, and strong messages that broke through the clutter. An improving economy nationwide also gave consumers the confidence to buy new cars and trucks," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President – Sales. "We plan to continue offering Employee Pricing Plus on our remaining 2005 model year inventory with the supporting advertising that will grab customers' attention."

Sales of sport-utility vehicles for the company increased 38 percent, posting sales of 66,804 units. Jeep products led the way in the segment, with Jeep Liberty posting its highest July sales total ever with 20,245 units sold, an improvement of 22 percent over July 2004 sales. Jeep Grand Cherokee posted sales of 24,331 units, an increase of 85 percent. The signature nameplate of the Jeep brand and the originator of the sport utility segment, Jeep Wrangler, posted record sales of 11,704 units, a 66 percent surge over July 2004 results.

 Employee Pricing
I actually don't like employee pricing. It takes the fun out of haggling a good price. When I was looking for a jeep the college grad discount was basically what employee pricing is now. I would have rather talked them down to around what they have listed as invoice and taken a flat $500-$1000 grad discount + regular rebates. I was looking for months and nobody would negotiate. I ended up getting another used jeep, which was probably the way to go for me.

On the TK, I'm hoping that with the doors and panels off it'll still have a pretty open feel. Kind of an open frame look (the frame itself taking on the duty/shape/strength of a roll bar). I know that's only a hope. Without knowing all the details, I'd be tempted to get my TJ (the sure bet) while they are around. If the TK is as good or better than the TJ, you could always trade up. Or if you have a TJ and don’t like the new TK, you’d have the option to drive the jeep of your liking forever. Actually, I'm pretty sure it's in the Jeeper Code that you have to drive your jeep until you or the jeep dies.

Well, I heard that and seen that too...There are a few "mature" Jeepers around here and I swear; I am surprised their old '55-'69 era CJ5/7's are still going..LOL but I think that probably is a unwritten code. The YJ just got new tires and shocks, and I've just recently had an appendectomy,so both of "us" should be good for another 10yr/150,000 miles! (I hope).

 Re: Employee Pricing
LOL!!! I will admit I probably committed a jeep sin when I sold my YJ, but I was young and made a profit. What can I say, money talks.
I'm pretty sure there are some jeepers who don't like a KJ. But I'm proud of what I've got and happy with the extra space I get for people and gear. I can't see myself letting her go anytime soon.

If you've got the 2.5 (and I pretty sure you do) I can't see why you couldn't get another 150,000 miles. The YJ I owned had about that many miles with original clutch and never burned or dropped any oil.

Jeepxk -- I agree. The sales are great, but I don't know how they will ever get away from Employee pricing. Once you take the plunge, there is no going back in my opinion....

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!
... wait a second, that's not sky falling on Jeep? It's money! And Jeep isn't doomed, they've actually got great products that sell.

Then again, I wonder if that bump in TJ sales has anything to do with Jeepers worried about how the TK will turn out or turn up in price.

Forgive me here a bit; But I agree with GregB, I think that the Jeepers or New Jeepers are not gonna wait and see what the TK turns out to be. It's obvious that the "open tub" Jeep days are over...what's the use of a Jeep Wrangler if you can't take the WHOLE top off? I mean, if I was in the market for a new Jeep...(and I'm NOT); why wait for TJ's replacement when it's gonna cost $2/$3K more? It's certainly a no-brainer to me...what's proven is always the BETTER deal.

See what happens when you price your product fair and the customer feels like they got a good deal. I don't know how they are ever going to get away from Employee Pricing at this point. I won't buy a new Commander until I feel I can get the best deal. If you don't, come resale time and you paid too much you would be screwed.
