WranglerHiring Issues might delay New Wrangler Launch
Posted by ScramblerKen on 2005/12/27 20:48:49 (2028) reads

Seems there are some unhappy Jeep workers. As most of you know, the next generation Wrangler will be built only in part by Jeep as 3 major suppliers will do most of the work. Apparently, exisiting Jeep workers are supposed to have priority for the jobs that will be offered by the suppliers (before these Jeep employees lose their exisiting jobs). It looks like the suppliers don't think some of the exisiting Jeep works meet the qualifications. See the Toledo Blade article for the details.

A couple of interesting tidbits from the article:

Looks like Jeep wants to start building protoypes in February.

Production of the 4-door is slated for July.

It is good that these suppliers are going for a high standard this may be the begining of a new manufacturing system that will give the japanese a run for thier money.

This might ignite some fires, but I have little sympathy for the former Toledo workers.

The suppliers are being held to a very high standard in this close cooperation between DCX and suppliers. They need to ensure good workers.

After enlarging the image it looks like there are 2 thin orange lines going across the roofline just about where a SunRider moonroof would go. Any idea what they are?

It's a removable targa roof.
