WranglerHummer's H4 (Wrangler-Competitor) Not Yet a Go

We caught this brief snippet at TheCarConnection.com:

The Wrangler-sized vehicle was pulled from the GM schedule, Lutz confirmed, because the original "clean sheet of paper" approach, which was based on advanced, spaceframe technology, just wouldn't have been able to generate a profit. "A much more derivative approach" has now been adopted, though Lutz stressed that "it will still be a unique vehicle." As with the Camaro, GM's board has yet to give the go, though Lutz said he is "confident it will be" approved.

that is a funny video. I saw it a while ago. it was posted here about a year ago before the site changed. it looks like the rod was clipped by a rock. if you take some time and look at an H2 you can see that there are things hanging too low (torsion barsw for the IFS, tie rods, rear sway bar. the rear sway bars on jeeps are mounted to the frame and not the axle which gives better clearence.

Almost sounded like it had a chance of being interesting. But the "derivative" aproach virtually guarantees it will be a p.o.s. since anything derived from GM's current crop will not break any new ground in terms of (diesel) engine, suspension, or actully being a real off road vehicle.

Example: http://www.tt-v6.de/Inhalte/video/Hummer/Hummerbad.wmv

The post I got this link out of was a Hummer board and the response after the vid was "Yeah if you are gonna drive around on anything more than a parking lot you need to replace those tie rods with brand x blah blah..."

That's not exactly impresssive. Jeeps have and will always have plenty of things to bitch about but they are (at least for now) not completey designed by Madison Avenue.

Heh - that is a great video - looks like the Hummer went cross-eyed.
