(From Professional Car Care e-News™)

About 30 Car Care World Expo attendees gathered early this morning to discuss sudden acceleration of vehicles, which has caused scores of fatal accidents and has been a source of contention and controversy in the industry for years.

The Jeep Cherokee 'Sudden Acceleration' Issue Roundtable Discussion was a late addition to the International Carwash Association's (ICA) schedule of events following a fatal accident at a Connecticut carwash.

ICA General Council, Bruce Kramer moderated the roundtable event and vocalized the ICA's desire to gather relevant information about "sudden unintended acceleration" in order to determine the association's next course of action.

Several carwash owners and operators shared stories regarding Jeep acceleration and their attempts to curtail the problems, including written policies, driver training and general caution when servicing Jeep Grand Cherokees.

Full story is here.

I was really surprised when I ran across this article – I though it was from the early to mid-nineties when I read it. I remembered when the early nineties Cherokee had a break pedal position “defect”; but this complaint was news to me. I, like the others here, found little or nothing on this issue. I post these three links for further reading:

Something tells me we’ll never hear about this again…

I did some looking to and could not find out anymore info. First, it sounds like they are talking about the Grand Cherokee not the XJ. But what years are they talking about and is there a common powerplant in all of these cases? I can see why DC is not commenting. Until there are more facts or a study done it sounds like the car wash operators are blacklisting all "Jeep Cherokees". Sort of like U-Haul blacklisting Ford Explorers.

Gee. Not exactly overwhelming in the facts department. Funny how these sudden acceleration cases always happen in the US even when the same cars are sold all over the world.

In the car wash scenario could it be people jumping into unfamiliar cars with the seats too far forward and not enough room to properly move their feet and the fact that everthing has an auto trans these days compounding the problem. Me thinks so.

When Audi "fixed" the problem with sudden acceleration, if I recall correctly, they moved the pedals further apart on US vehicles. They did nothing to non US models and magically the "problem" went away.

I tried to find the exact details of the "Jeep Acceleration Problem" and haven't seen anything specific as to what happened, other than a jeep hitting 2 people and 3 parked cars, killing one and severely injuring the other. If someone finds the specific details as to what actually happens on acceleration it would be appreciated.
