PatriotNew Fiat Platform for Jeep Compass and Patriot Will be "100% Jeep"
Posted by nashman on 2011/1/12 15:53:00 (2569) reads

According to Jeep top dog Mike Manley (in an interview in Automotive News), despite the fact that it will be based on a Fiat platform, replacements for the Jeep Compass and Patriot will be developed in house by Jeep engineers.

Although the replacement for the Jeep Compass and Patriot will come from a front-wheel-drive Fiat car platform, Jeep CEO Mike Manley wants to be very clear about its Jeep bona fides and off-road capability.

"Even though the technology and the platform is Fiat, it will be 100 percent Jeep," Manley said. The vehicle, he added, will be developed by "pure Jeep engineers. That's why product stays here in the U.S."

In about 18 months, the new Jeep will replace both the Compass and Patriot compact crossovers, which share a platform, engine and optional equipment. Those vehicles offer both fwd and all-wheel-drive configurations.

PatriotEverything is Bigger in Texas - Including the Patriot
Posted by mike on 2009/10/20 9:54:25 (1960) reads

The Texas Auto Writers recently named the 2010 Jeep Patriot the "Compact SUV of Texas" for its best-in-class capabilities.

Voting after their annual Truck Rodeo in San Antonio, members of the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) named the 2010 Jeep® Patriot "Compact SUV of Texas," giving Jeep Patriot top honors over competitors in the compact SUV category.

"This is certainly an honor for Jeep," said Michael Manley, President and Chief Executive Officer - Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "We're proud the Patriot proved its off-road prowess at the Texas Truck Rodeo. The Trail Rated® Jeep Patriot 4x4 is hands down the most capable and affordable SUV in the compact segment."

More than 40 TAWA members were given two days of on- and off-road evaluation time with the 2010 Jeep Patriot and its competitors.

Consideration is given to everything from exterior styling and off-road capability to the entrant's overall utility, value and fuel efficiency.

PatriotCompass and Patriot Show Strong July Sales
Posted by mike on 2009/8/4 7:23:06 (2141) reads

The Jeep brand showed some sales life during the month of July - both the Compass and the Patriot just about doubled their sales compared with July of 2008.

Wrangler sales for 2009 are still running 2% higher than 2008, but overall, the entire Jeep brand is down over one-third for the year.

Overall, Chrysler sales were up 30% compared to June, and foot traffic in dealerships was about double what is was this time last year.

According to Peter Fong, President and Chief Executive Officer-Chrysler Brand and Lead Executive for the Sales Organization, Chrysler Group LLC., much of the increases are due to the "Cash for Clunkers" program, "The government's program is doing what it is designed to do-spur consumers to trade in older gas guzzlers for new, fuel-efficient vehicles. While we don't expect the industry sales forecast to change dramatically, we are seeing encouraging signs that consumer confidence is building, and more consumers are considering purchasing a new vehicle."

Full sales numbers after the jump.

PatriotThe Italians Have Chrysler All Figured Out

According to US News and World Report - Automotive, Chrysler's new pisan, Sergio Marchionne has his finger on the trigger to put some vehicles out to pasture - including the Jeep Compass and Patriot.

According to the article, "Chrysler models are old and they have little appeal on the market." Rather than killing entire brands, word on the street is that Sergio will be whacking individual models in an effort to cut costs and improve sales.

he company hopes to introduce a more attractive vehicle lineup soon. Motor Trend notes, "Fiat will begin U.S. production of its Mini Cooper-fighting 500 city car in 2011. The brand's Alfa Romeo MiTo and upcoming Milano," sporty small and midsize cars, respectively, "may follow it to the States as well."

Clearly, I'm taking advantage of the fact that I'm an American of Italian descent in my writing. No offense intended, all in good fun.

PatriotJeep Patriot Outranks Hybrid Compact-SUVs in Efficiency Ranking
Posted by mike on 2009/4/10 8:22:34 (1887) reads just released a "Best Hybrids for the Money" report which ranks hybrids on a "efficiency-cost" rating (combined city/highway mpg rating divided by the base MSRP multiplied by 1000). The winner in the compact-SUV category was the Ford Escape. So where's the news? It's the fact that the Jeep Patriot trounced the Escape in the efficiency-cost rating:

The Ford Escape gets the compact-SUV slot because it's priced lower than its sibling, the Mercury Mariner Hybrid (1.12). The Mazda Tribute Hybrid actually ranks higher (1.16) due to a lower starting price, but it's sold only in California. All three models are good choices. They are the most efficient SUVs on the market, though the recently improved non-hybrid Escape and Tribute outrank them in efficiency cost (1.22 for the Tribute), as does the miserly Jeep Patriot (1.43). Like the Fusion's, the hybrid SUVs' tax credits halve Sept. 30. Note that all-wheel-drive versions of these models already get a lower, $975 credit to begin with.

Another reason to love the Patriot.

PatriotPatriot Among Best Small SUVs In Rollover Crashes
Posted by mike on 2009/3/24 10:40:58 (2141) reads

Is it just me, or does the Patriot keep looking better and better?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety just released some results from their small SUV rollover tests, and the Patriot was one of only 4 vehicles to pass with a score of "good".

This new rating system is based on Institute research showing that occupants in rollover crashes benefit from stronger roofs. Vehicles rated good must have roofs that are more than twice as strong as minimum federal safety standards require.
The Tiguan, Subaru Forester, Honda Element, and Jeep Patriot earn good ratings. The Suzuki Grand Vitara, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, and Mitsubishi Outlander are rated acceptable. Roofs on the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape are marginal, and the Kia's is poor.

"We anticipate that our roof strength test will drive improved rollover crash protection the same way our frontal offset and side impact consumer test programs have led to better protection in these kinds of crashes," says Institute president Adrian Lund.

PatriotImpressive Review of 2009 Patriot
Posted by mike on 2009/3/18 11:07:51 (2236) reads

Scott Burgess from The Detroit News is singing the praises of the 2009 Jeep Patriot in a review published this morning:

The 2009 compact SUV, which is really a crossover built on the same platform as the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber, has been upgraded throughout. This wasn't a mid-cycle refresh, it was an apology.
Little details make a design, and the previous Patriot was still a first draft.
Now, it's vastly improved. Chrome accents are now around the dash vents, softer armrests are on the overhauled door panel and illuminated cup holders make the trip a little more bearable.
Really, you don't know what you're missing inside a Patriot until you park a 2008 model next to a 2009. Then when you look inside, you say things like, "wow, the '08 really bites."

Check out the entire review and let me know if you think he's laying it on a little thick or if the Patriot might be all that Mr. Burgess is claiming.

PatriotChrysler Announces Patriot EV!
Posted by mike on 2009/1/11 19:18:05 (3068) reads

In a bit of a surprise, Chrysler today unveiled the Jeep Patriot EV in Detriot at the North American International Auto Show.

The vehicle has a 400-mile range, with a 40-mile all-electric range with zero fuel emissions - similar to the Wrangler EV.

As a Range-extended Electric Vehicle, the Jeep Patriot EV combines the electric-drive components of an Electric Vehicle with a small gasoline engine and integrated electric generator to produce additional energy to power the electric-drive system when needed. This provides the positive attributes of an Electric Vehicle with the driving range equivalent to today’s gasoline-powered vehicles.
